PAWWS FT 3K - "DO WHAT WE WANT TO" (SYNTH-POP, UK)

Pop music often gets stigmatised for all the wrong reasons. However, it is a genre for nurturing some of the best singers, songwriters and producers in the business. If you ever needed proof then just listen to sultry young Londoner Lucy Taylor, otherwise known as Pawws. The whimsical solo artist, who has previously worked with Bloc Party's Kele Okereke, had a monumental past twelve months that saw her talents finally emerge following a string of successful performances and positive critique. Her glimmering application of sound and crystalline pop tones are something that gives a dose of credibility back to the pop industry and demo track "Do What We Want To" serves as a perfect example to any dismissive music connoisseur.

Following the blueprints of previous offerings "Outside" and "Slow Love", Pawws' newest single perfectly encapsulates the intellectual compositions of pop: glossy vocals, sporadic electro filters and occasional bass line thumps; a sweetened disco excursion that builds up to a crescendo of synth-laden wonderment and self reflection. There is an obvious fragility, a proverbial heart worn on the sleeve a la The Sound Of Arrows meets Phildel, where Taylor's sugary vocals purr against undulating electro reverb and rousing keys, against synthesised charm and emotive thought. If this demo is anything to go by, Pawws has clearly mastered this genre to full effect.
